Ανατινάχτηκε στο νού μου το φοβερό ταξίδι, βρόντηξε από το ένα μελίγγι μου στο άλλο η θάλασσα, φούσκωσε η μνήμη κι είδα, ξανάδα και ξαναχάρηκα πως ξεκορμίσαμε από το γιό, τη γυναίκα, την καλοπέραση και την πατρίδα, πως αφήσαμε πίσω μας την αρετή και την αλήθεια, πως περάσαμε, χωρίς να συντριβεί το καράβι μας, από τη Σκύλλα και τη Χάρυβδη του Θεού κι ανοιχτήκαμε, με κάργα τα πανιά, στο λεύτερο πέλαγο και βάλαμε παλικαρίσια πλώρα κατά την άβυσσο.
